Dog Vaccinations in Evanston, IL

At Fox Animal Hospital, we’ve dedicated ourselves to providing compassionate, personalized, and comprehensive veterinary care to local pets. We want you and your beloved companion to enjoy your lives together for a very long time. That’s why we place such a strong emphasis on wellness services and preventative care, which includes cat and dog vaccinations.

We recommend that all puppies and kittens have a vaccine protocol established as soon as possible to protect them from viruses and diseases. After conducting your pet’s wellness exam, we can customize a cat or dog vaccination schedule that’s designed to meet their specific healthcare needs.

Before We Vaccinate Your Dog or Cat

As an AAHA-accredited animal hospital, we're dedicated to maintaining a higher standard of care. One of our standards includes the Nurse Practitioner Evaluation. When a dog or cat comes in to see one of our technicians for their vaccinations, the technician must get a full medical history on the patient, measure their weight, and obtain TRP (temperature, respiration, and pulse). Having a trained animal health professional evaluate your pet before they get their vaccinations ensures that they are healthy enough to be vaccinated with minimal risk.

Cat and Dog Vaccination Schedules

Here’s what a typical vaccine schedule looks like for puppies and kittens:

Puppy Vaccine Schedule:

  • 8-9 weeks old - DAPP 1 of 3 and Bordetella (kennel cough)
  • 11-12 weeks old - DAPP 2 of 3
  • 16 weeks old - DAPP 3 of 3 and rabies

*DAPP = Distemper/ Adenovirus/ Parainfluenza/ Parvovirus

The leptospirosis vaccine series is also recommended and usually started when your pet is old enough to be spayed or neutered.

The canine influenza combination vaccine that protects against both the H3N2 and H3N8 strains of the virus is also available. While it is not a core vaccine, depending on your pet's lifestyle, we may recommend it.

Kitten Vaccine Schedule:

  • 8-9 weeks old - FVRCP 1 of 3
  • 11-12 weeks old - FVCRP 2 of 3
  • 16 weeks old - FVCRP 3 of 3 and rabies

*FVRCP = Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis/ Calicivirus/ Panleukopenia

Keep in mind that our vets may recommend additional vaccines based on your pet’s lifestyle and risk of exposure. For example, if your cat will be spending time outside, it’s best for them to receive protection from feline leukemia. Also, if you have outdoor adventures with your dog like hiking in the woods, it’s recommended that they receive a vaccination for Lyme disease.
